What is CCVCC True or False?
Children read a CCVCC word or a short sentence, look at the picture, and decide: True or False? Does the word trunk really go with that picture of a sloth on a track?
Because the picture only helps if they read the word properly, children have to read every sound, right to the end of the word. It’s quick, it’s fun, and it builds comprehension as children move on to words with a blend at both ends.

📄 Printable & projectable PDF
Show it on the interactive whiteboard or print it for small groups.
- Level 1: 11 slides of CCVCC words, 3 words per slide.
- Level 2: 8 slides of short CCVCC sentences, 4 per slide.
- Two team tables on every slide: players mark T or F with a magnet or marker.
- A Master Card listing every set.
- Bonus: a printable poster/matching game with every word and its picture.
🎮 Interactive game
Play in the classroom or at home, on the whiteboard, a computer, a tablet or a phone.
- Two or three teams: every team gets the same cards in a different order (three words or four sentences) and races to mark them. ⏯ pauses the game while the next players come up. Every card right first time scores a point.
- One player: one card at a time, with gentle feedback and no timer.
- A results page shows the words right first time and the words to practise.
Everything you need, nothing to prepare
- 33 CCVCC words in 11 sets, with a blend at both ends (clock, black, trunk, chimp, dress).
- 32 short sentences built from the same words (Her dress is pink. The brick is wet. An ant on a plant.).
- Level 1 changes every time you play. The words are matched with different pictures each round, so there’s no answer to remember. Children just have to read.
- Every word and sentence recorded. Tap it to hear it read, or choose Sound it out to hear the sounds in Level 1 words first (cl… ock… clock).
- Choose single sets or all of them, and play in order or mixed up.
- Bright clay-style pictures children love.
- Designed for whole-class, small-group, one-to-one or home use.
🔴 Good to know: the opening blend of every CCVCC word is shown in red (clock, trunk), so children can spot it at a glance.
Project it on Monday. Race on Wednesday. Practise at home.
Use the PDF for a whole-class warm-up, switch to the team game for a fast race on the board, then send children home to play on a tablet or phone and see their own words to practise.
