What is CVC True or False?
Children read a CVC word or a short sentence, look at the picture, and decide: True or False? Does the word cat really go with that picture of a hat?
Because the picture only helps if they read the word properly, children have to decode every sound, not guess from the first letter. It’s quick, it’s fun, and it builds comprehension right from the very first words they can read.

Show it on the interactive whiteboard or print it for small groups.
- Level 1: 16 slides of CVC words, 4 words per slide.
- Level 2: 18 slides of short CVC sentences, 4 per slide.

🎮 Interactive game
Play in the classroom or at home, on the whiteboard, a computer, a tablet or a phone.
- Two or three teams: every team gets the same four cards in a different order and races to mark them. ⏯ pauses the game while the next players come up. Every card right first time scores a point.
- One player: one card at a time, with gentle feedback and no timer.
- A results page shows the words right first time and the words to practise.
Everything you need, nothing to prepare
- 64 CVC words in 16 sets: two sets for each short vowel, plus six mixed sets.
- 72 short sentences built from the same words (It is a cat. I can hop. She is Jen.).
- Level 1 changes every time you play. The words are matched with different pictures each round, so there’s no answer to remember. Children just have to read.
- Every word and sentence recorded. Tap it to hear it read, or choose Sound it out to hear the sounds in Level 1 words first (c… a… t… cat).
- Choose single sets or all of them, and play in order or mixed up.
- Bright clay-style pictures children love.
- Designed for whole-class, small-group, one-to-one or home use.
🔴 Good to know: the first letter of every CVC word is shown in red, matching the rest of the Phonics Playmakers CVC resources.
Project it on Monday. Race on Wednesday. Practise at home.
Use the PDF for a whole-class warm-up, switch to the team game for a fast race on the board, then send children home to play on a tablet or phone and see their own words to practise.
